Matter Solution

Matter Solution

Matter was jointly initiated in 2019 by tech giants such as Amazon, Apple, and Google, originally named Project CHIP. Its goal is to revolutionize how smart home devices interoperate. This open standard, based on IP protocol, breaks down brand barriers, enabling seamless communication between devices from different manufacturers.

Multi-Network Support for Seamless Connectivity

It is supporting connection methods such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Thread wireless mesh network, and using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for quick device pairing. This multi-network support ensures that each device can choose the most suitable connection method.

iMQ Secure Element Solution

iMQ introduces SQ7131 Secure Element with SESIP & PSA Level 3 certification along with PUF-based SQ7191 into this solution. Designed for Matter-enabled devices, the SQ7131 and PUF-based SQ7191provid hardware-isolated storage for Device Attestation Credentials (DAC), certificate chains, and cryptographic keys required for secure commissioning and device authentication. It also supports secure boot, digital signatures, and essential cryptographic operations, establishing a trusted security foundation for Matter, Thread, and cloud-connected ecosystems.

Benefits of Built-in DAC in iMQ SQ7131 & PUF-based SQ7191 for Matter Smart-Home Devices
  • Hardware Root of Trust (RoT): SQ7131 & SQ7191 establish a true hardware Root of Trust for Matter by providing a dedicated security boundary where the non-exportable DAC private key is securely protected and never exposed to application firmware or external memory.
  • Strong Protection of DAC Private Key: By performing all private key operations, including Matter ECDSA attestation signing, entirely within the secure element, SQ7131 and SQ7191 prevent firmware, debug, memory dump, and side-channel attacks, significantly reducing the risk of credential leakage compared to software-based or flash-stored key solutions.
  • Anti-Cloning and Device Uniqueness: Each SQ7131 and SQ7191 contains a unique DAC keypair, ensuring keys are never stored in plain form and cannot be duplicated during manufacturing, effectively preventing large-scale device cloning and counterfeit Matter devices.
  • Simplified Matter Commissioning & Attestation: SQ7131 and SQ7191 natively support Matter Device Attestation challenge–response and ECDSA signature generation, performing all signing internally so that only the signature and DAC certificate chain leave the chip during commissioning, ensuring reliable and interoperable Matter onboarding.
  • Manufacturing & Supply-Chain Security: SQ7131 and SQ7191 support secure DAC provisioning through pre-injection, or protected key-injection protocols, preventing key exposure across OSAT, contract manufacturing, and multi-country production flows.
  • Certification & Audit Friendliness (Matter / STQC): SQ7131 and SQ7191 enforce clear separation between the application processor and security-critical attestation assets, simplifying demonstration of key non-exportability and hardware isolation while streamlining Matter certification, STQC evaluation, and customer security audits.
  • Lifecycle & Post-Deployment Support: SQ7131 and SQ7191 support certificate metadata, secure state flags, and controlled renewal or re-provisioning, enabling long-term device trust management without exposing sensitive secrets.
